Baked Goodness

Mmm... for this Creative Tuesdays, a tower of spongy baked-with-love goodness, sandwiched between strawberries and cream. One of my faves but never seen that here, actually. In fact, the closest I've remotely found is Chantilly cake(?) at Whole Foods Market but not nearly as tasty nor as... glorious, shall we say? (The US oddly lacks the variety of cakes so commonly offered across the pond.) As it is, I doubt any sponge could hold that much cream but isn't artistic license a dream? Heh.

As I rather had a penchant for my initial sketch here, I decided to just focus on colouring in the "love offering" instead, in order to keep the whole feel of it fairly sketchy in the process, as you can see. Must admit, my mouth was practically watering the entire time, so probably just as well this wasn't drawn from real life or I dare say, my resolve might not have been as strong as this little boy's! :)

  3. Michael,
You have a sweet tooth. I can't have sugar or wheat any longer. Thank goodness my hunger for sweets is gone or this challenge would have been hard.
    Blessings

  4. I really love how you did not paint in the entire piece. Your towering, mouth-watering, delicious looking sponge cake stands out perfectly as the centerpiece. Awesome job as always, Michael. Thanks for another great CT prompt. Janis and Christine were kind enough to let me know they couldn't leave a comment on my blog, I fixed it . . . I hope?!

  7. Wonderful illustration, Michael! I remember waaaaaaaaaaay back in high school, we would make butterfly sponge cupcakes in cooking class and the sponge would hold fresh whipped cream and strawberries. Actually, sponge cake filled with strawberries and cream used to be very popular for a morning/afternoon tea here in Australia, either that or a Devonshire Tea.

I'm vegan now so all animal products and by-products are off my menu. I find I can vegan-ise most recipes though. :)

  8. Such a delightful illustration Michael. I love the fact that you only coloured the cake and that it is towering above him. Reminds me of that expression about "eyes bigger that your stomach". A card in the making?
