Happy summer days of celebration!
For those of us coming off of celebrating July 4th or Canada Day, I hope you're good with another outdoor venture — this one, the Scribble Picnic kind! As you'll see from below, watermelon is in order. To begin our own festivities, we had turkey, cheese and avo baguettes, chips and salsa, veggies and cherries, but of course, I also found time for these crisp clean cuts of sweet thirst-quenching design goodness. How about you? Show us what you've got! Oh, and by the way, did anyone bring lemonade perchance? :)
P.S. To keep the celebrations going, my next post will be a sneak peek into our Summer Scribble Picnic Giveaway! Not only that, you'll also learn about next week's imaginative challenge... which is a first of its kind here. (Reminder: one entry will be awarded per picnic attended, so even if you've just entered this week for the first time, you have a chance. Better odds than the lottery, let me tell you!)
Your summery sunny watermelon entry today is refreshing and so happy! Can't wait to see what you have in store for us for our next challenge! You sure keep things interesting around here!
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't wait to show you too, Christine. Thank you!
DeleteI love the graphic design aspect of your watermelon piece, Michael! We are in our winter here but picnics are still doable being we are in the sub-tropics. I'm very intrigued about next week's challenge and also excited about another giveaway...YES!
ReplyDeleteI'm only just catching up on my blog's comments from last week and I'm more than happy for you to forward my note re. my parents' time in Malaya on to your older sister. She may be able to shed a little more light on the dates, etc. I agree, it's possible they did cross paths at some point.
Have a lovely week, Michael! :)
Yes, Serena, I did rather think that with where you live you can have a picnic whenever you want! I hope next week's challenge does not scare anyone off as Alexandra is afraid it might! :-) it should be very interesting comparing people's work. I've never seen something like this done for an art challenge before but the concept is certainly out there.
DeleteNow I'm even more intrigued. haha Do tell...
DeleteI love the boldness of your entry this week Michael - and I really like that your watermelon is NOT seedless, somehow those new-fangled seedless ones just don't seem genuine to me! Anyway, as you'll note, I don't eat any of them - they fall in that little category of 'foods I dislike because we never had them as kids in England' - my list includes peanut butter, cinnamon hearts, okra, and yes watermelon!
ReplyDeleteYour Fourth sounded like a lot of fun. . . . . .we had a huge bowl of Washington State cherries on the tale too - they are delicious!
Looking forward to the surprise theme coming up!
Mary -
Wow, you know, I never really considered that before, Mary. You are totally right, we never did have watermelon growing up. Funny that I've never even thought of that before! Well, you are Entitled to have just a few food you don't eat. Ha ha. Thank you.
DeleteOh Michael, your graphic heart came out with this one. Mountains of watermelon. I love it. So clean, so crisp...so refreshing. I took a bite, and the juice is running down to my elbows. That's the way I love watermelon. I adored this theme...I'm a watermelon lover.
ReplyDeleteYou know Wanda, I actually thought of you when I came up with the watermelon thing, thinking you would do one of your watercolours of such and then you do the spitting seeds one! You see, keeping us on our toes too. Thank you.
DeleteOh, and I am impressed that yet again, Wanda, You saw the veiled reference. Indeed those are red mountain peaks as well! :-) Maybe I should have called it watermelon Rockies? 🙂
Deletewhat kind of lemonade? the uk fizzy kind or the juice type? :p hmm now I wish we had lemonade here :p
ReplyDeletethis is a great design, very summery :D
Haha, I like the classic American style but without a lot of,sugar added and little pulp. Yes, it always bothers my sister in UK and family that fizzy lemon is not truly lemonade and whilst it's called that now, it used to refer to the same as Stateside. Lol
ReplyDeleteI thought they were watermelon houses since I only see the top part at first. yeah, that's probably too odd even for me. so it's good it's not. this is definitely something a graphic designer would love - simple, to the point with bright, beautiful colors. great take on the theme.
ReplyDeletesadly, nothing from me this week, couldn't even finish a sketch, too lazy, & the weather is far too hot, I guess
have a lovely day.
Hot weather stinks, doesn't it? Yes, that's why I thought cool refreshing watermelon might be just the ticket. No worries though, Lissa. Thank you so much for your visit.
Deleteabsolutely beautiful watermelon!! love the abstract look of this and bright, bold colors!!
ReplyDeleteYes! I could see that as a poster for the Rocky Mountain Watermelon Festival. Oh, what a great t-shirt that would make! Great job.
ReplyDeleteI might even wear that. :)
DeleteI like the sun peeking out behind the cloud, very bright and colorful!
ReplyDeleteOh, how striking and fun! I don't know that ever in a hundred years I would have thought of watermelon mountains!
ReplyDeleteHaha, funny answer! Thank you.
