Tune into Happy
Our picnic this week reminded me just how long it's been since I've listened to a proper radio! In fact, we don't even own one. And, technically, don't own a TV either since it actually belongs to our landlords. It just goes to show how much our lives are centred around the computer and internet which is how we download TV shows/movies too since we don't have cable.
The last time I really properly listened to the radio was probably when a teen, trying to catch various songs in hope of recording them onto cassette. Ha, can't say I miss that, but somehow this does make me feel somewhat wistful for the "old" days when things were just far simpler. Actually, scratch that! They weren't. Modern technology has made such tasks far easier, especially for accessing information without having to go the the library. Still, I wouldn't mind some retro kind of radio, updated to work for today. Here's my own take on one of the pink ones shown here.
So, who's bringing along their radio? Do you even own one anymore? I wonder what kind the rest of you chose. How about we tune into each others' below and find out? :)
A wonderful vintage radio, Michael! We have a digital radio but I do remember, as a teen also, trying to tape my favourite songs from the radio with the cassette recorder at the ready. It used to annoy me when the disc jockey would talk during the intro or the end of the song I was trying to record. haha Technology has certainly come a long way...it is a fast-paced world nowadays and sometimes I wish it would be slower-paced as it was in my teens. :)

DeleteMichael I love this pink retro theme, and your psychedelic background really sets the atmosphere here, this really takes us back to the good old days (not! As you were saying, I happen to live on Google nowadays). I remember actually recording a tv show via cassette in my teen days there was no way to record a visual tv program in those days so I had to make do with sound only. Sigh
ReplyDeleteHa, I so remember doing that too for Top of The Pop every week and usually getting songs interrupted! It's that kind of thing I was referring to as not missing. Ha. Yes, thank you--the background was indeed meant to help add that 60's/50's retro style feel as well as the swirls too...as I depicted on my little instagram video if you happened to have seen that? :)

I haven't listened to radio in ages, but in the 80's when I was growing up, I was glued to the AM stations for "America's Top 40" with Casey Kasem. I had my tape at the ready to record the songs!! :) We listen to a lot of old radio, back in the day 1940's-1960's comedy shows. They don't do comedy like that anymore!

DeleteWe ahd TOTP (Top of the Pops) every Thursday ngiht at 7:00 but that was on TV. I can't recall any countdown on radio but am sure there were many. Instead I would listen to Capital radio, hoping to catch a song and often spending the entire time finding nothing I liked..even in the glorious 80's too! :) I have to say though, I think the BRitish 80's music was WAY better than America's which was more dominated by big hair metal than electro synth bands like we had. :) We of course had the biggest band of that time, The Jam, which hardly anyone here has heard of even to this day! I was a fan of The Jam, The Specials, The Selector...name the punk/ska band and I loved them :) I was what you'd call "alternative" in the 80's, though I secretly listened to pop music too lol... The 80's were glorious...I'm too nostalgic lol!

DeleteBoy do I remember those day ... fondly, I might add. Not because of the radios, but because of the more peaceful times. Love your pink radio and do believe I have seen one in my day. I do own a radio, one of the crank if there is no power radios, in case of emergency. Hopefully we will never have to use it. This was a fun prompt, Micheal ... brought back some fond memories :)

In this day and age with teh threat of an EMP attack, let alone anything else, I think you are very wise to hanve one of those! We had one come to think of it but think we sold it when we went to the UK!
DeleteYes, I loved the more peaceful times too, ironic being that it was the cold war but generally for sure people were more civil. The level of discord and insults used for crass humour now saddens me no end ...and I 'm not even that old! Thank you, Andrea.

ReplyDeleteAlthough I am more likely to play music CD's in my car, I do also listen to a local radio talk station at times, or the classical music station. In the house I really never listen to a radio even though we have a couple of portables hanging around.
Great theme - I really enjoyed working on this one.

Do you listen to dc's or records possibly then? Everythign we have is digitally downloaded now...usally on our phones! Weird.
DeleteThe drawing was placed over a digital background--essentially creating circles to the size and shape I wanted and then filling them with the colours and painting in a mask to cover up parts where it is softer. ") Thank you.
Great illustration! I am in the minority (in so many ways) because I don't miss listening to music on the radio at all. Oh, but I do love listening to the shipping forecast.

DeleteWhat a lovely radio. I remember those - but not pink. I am very late entering today as I just returned Monday. A little jet lag and very excited about the conference I attended. Radio fit in perfectly. But I didn't draw a radio- wanted to but no time.

DeleteThat is a pretty cool retro radio with those modern-day emoji faces. We didn't have one like that growing up, but I did win a transistor radio when I was a teenager - before FM - and remember going through batteries like crazy. My kids had boom boxes and now we just have a clock radio in the kitchen for emergencies. This was a pretty thought-provoking theme.

ReplyDeleteIt was a few years after receiving my transistor radio, but I do remember saving up my money to buy a cassette tape recorder/player, and trying to record songs from the radio! What good memories this prompt brought back!
