Who needs a Genie when...?
You never know what you'll find in a bottle these days, well at least here! No, nothing so tongue-in-cheek as these but there are years' old leftover pickled whatnots laying around, tucked away on darkened dusty shelves in the old farm house pantry.
I had initially started inking this up for Inktober's "Drooling" prompt last week, per Alexandra's rather witty "stop drooling" label suggestion but then various things* came up so never did finish it until now. I'm not actually terribly into scary per se but hope you can appreciate the offbeat humour perhaps?
Let's now find out what the rest of our scribblers came up with. And, no, please don't offer me any pickled anything. Thank you very much!
* Alexandra had a hard fall on some wet steps 10 days ago as is now on largely forced bed rest with minimal movement. She cracked her upper-spine C6 vertebrae and has a compression of the sacrum which is essentially the area pressing in around her tailbone. The continual pain should start residing in another week or so. In about a month, she should be feeling considerable better but it will take another 4-5 months to fully heal so she needs to be careful. In the meantime, Alex is told the only thing she can do is rest, not work, it away. So, anyway, that's taken a lot of our focus now. Another "unexpected" here. Alexandra's such a trooper though and just lays on the recliner chair, with ice packs and hot water bottles (rotating them for each area), trying not to wince or "bother" anyone but, of course, I'm all about making her comfortable and meeting her every request. :) (But, hey, now, she better not get toooo used to this!)
P.S. JOLT or DOUBLE is the next Scribble Picnic prompt, due on the 30th. (I decided to add the latter as the first one may be too hard!) Sign up on the date or hashtag it anytime between now and then on Instagram or Twitter. Thank you.
Looks like you are already thinking ghouls and goblins Michael - and those incredible scary bottles with such unusual contents - Bob will take the one on the right, haha! - are just awesome. You won't need to add any color to this one - perfect as is!
ReplyDeleteYes, have been thinking of Alexandra since we corresponded and are hoping so much she will make a quick recovery. With you caring for her, and hopefully her following doctors orders, she will weather this storm and be up and about soon. So very sorry this happened - be sure to hug her for us, and I'm slipping one in here just for you also!
The prompt for next time has me already wracking my old brain - interesting though!
Thank you Mary and will do!
DeleteHaha, I had to chuckle over that Bob comment. Hee. I need some of that hair thickener too actually and could def do with better eyesight these days!
Oh, and I decided this morning that JOLT is too difficult so have added "Double" as an alternative. Maybe that will help.
DeleteThis is a beautiful, inspired and detailed piece Michael, well done! It is seasonally spooky too!
ReplyDeleteAnd so terribly sorry to hear what happened to Alexandra, stay strong guys.
DeleteYes, and to think, I don't really even like Halloween but guess I like drawing somewhat spooky... just no blood and guts! Thank you.
DeleteOh, and I decided this morning that JOLT is too difficult so have added "Double" as an alternative. Maybe that will help.
And thank you re: Alex. Yes, we are strong for sure. :)
DeleteMichael do you mean due Oct 31 as that is a Wed?
DeleteI love the See More Eyeballs lol! These are great Michael, great artwork and I love the humour! :) I do hope Alexandra heals well, what a terrible injury! Sending love to you both! xx PS: Note to Alexandra - I think you should get used to being pampered! ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha, I knew you would enjoy that. :) Thank you!
DeleteYou always amaze me with the detail that you put into your pen drawings. Although I suppose I shouldn't be by now. What a curious pantry you have there. I am sending well wishes to Alexandra. Back injuries are the pits. Kudos to you for taking such good care of her. She is lucky to be able to depend on your strength and caring. I'd love to send a card her way.
ReplyDeleteWell, must say, I don't have anything like that in the pantry...but who knows what lurks in there from the previous owner that we have yet to discover up in the attic! Oy. Thank you.
DeleteI like that 'see more' name. it's funny.
ReplyDeleteI've managed to post something this time although still another unfinished piece, I seem to have a lot of those.
have a lovely day.
So glad you got to join us. :) Thank you.
DeleteHAHA....love the bald one great job. Hoping to be back playing along again. Enjoyed...
ReplyDeleteNow, the only thing is, Pam, I really need some of that lotion myself! :)
DeleteOh my, it is going to take time for me to remember my early morning rushed post before I am off to volunteer ... I remembered on my way home and came over to see if there was a chance of still getting in. Glad to see that you are still open :) Love your bottles ... not their contents so much :( Ugg drool, hair and eyeballs. You must have been having a nightmare before you came up with this ... or is it that Halloween is approaching :). Anyway, you always astonish me one way or another.
ReplyDeleteAs for Alexandra, my heart goes out to her. Sacral and neck injuries are the worst but I am glad it isn't any worse as well it could have been. You are both troopers as it is hard to be kept down and it is hard to be a caretaker to someone you love ... I hope there are some pain meds involved ... I can't imagine nerve pain without some kind of help. Maybe as her caregiver you could draw her pictures for her as she dictates them ... that will keep her creative juices flowing :) Be well, both of you ... wish I could do something to help you out.
Andrea @ From the Sol
Haha, Alex doesn't need any help there in terms of creative juices...rather, she inspires me as is at it far more than I!
DeleteHa, no nightmares but this did fall in line with an IG prompt so thought I'd keep it working for Inktober. Yes, I wouldn't like those ingredients withe but wouldn't mind better eyesight and thicker hair! Thus, the drawing. In fact, I was chuckling through the whole thing. Thank you so much.
And yes, I had the sign up for earlier, so you could do that. :)
Firstly, I love the piece your did for the prompt this week, Michael...perfect for the Halloween month! It's quite striking with the black and white.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I wish Alexandra a speedy recovery. I know only too well that back injuries can take a long time to heal and often remain a soft spot as it did with me. I do hope that won't be the case for her though. Sending healing vibes her way and well done to you for taking such good care of her. Best wishes to you both.
Thank you so much, all round! :)
DeleteNice to see so many people back! :)
ReplyDeleteHey Rain...thanks. Trying to get in a routine of a lot of things.
DeleteTotally! I only wish I had seen the sign ups sooner as I neglected to visit people until now!
DeleteMichael, so very sorry to hear of Alex's fall. Will certainly keep her in my prayers. I've been away from blogging for a long time, due to health issues with my dearest. I can't commit to Scribble Picnic until we get his issues resolved. Finally got a lung specialists, and now waiting for referrals for Cat Scans, and a number of other tests. I miss all of you...and perhaps next year will be a better year for me and Scribble Picnic. Love and Hugs to you and Alex.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry, Wanda. I need to hop over to your blog and get the updates. We miss you. Thank you.
DeleteYour "bottle" scared me. LOL Actually, the eyeballs were a nice added touch, Michael.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about Alex's injury.
A scary chuckle I hope as really it was very tongue in cheek, I'll have you know. I don't watch horror or even "celebrate" halloween really as most of it can be so tacky. I do like a good msytery though...along the lines of murder mystery theatre and the old peter cushing movies etc.
DeleteMichael,
ReplyDeleteI'm running way behind and totally forgot to link up but I love the sketch! Great job. Maybe when I grow up I can draw this good, too. :) I'm sorry to hear about Alexandra's fall and will say a prayer for a speedy recovery. May God's healing touch be upon her!
You totally can, Cathy. You know, just 5 years ago, Alex only drew very rudimentary and Christine was limited to stick figures but look at them now! Lots of practice makes perfect! :)
DeleteOh my gosh, I am so sorry to hear of Alex falling, I have not been participating in art challenges, my eye sight is making that difficult but I do come by to see what’s new, rarely comment, voice activating program is so complicated, but micheal I just had to say I will keep you all in my prayers, I enjoy your work and alex’s Work and you are both such inspirations, your work is beautiful.
