Missing Piece: Lil' Monster Surprise!

Suzie never knows what she'll find behind the park fence whenever her mom takes her.

Here's my take this week, created specifically with an online "kidlit" competition* in mind that I'm entering. Wish me luck!

Thinking on the theme, I thought how perfect to show a fence with open slats in between — you just can't help but try to fill in the missing pieces. It takes imagination, something this girl is obviously very good at. :)

*If, amazingly, my piece is selected, I'll have the opportunity to colour it with 14 other lucky recipients. So, stay tuned. Ooh, I'd so love to get picked and then could show you what I'll do next for this initial offering. Yes, it's likely a long shot, but well worth the challenge. :)

OK, now on to see what other lil' creatures the rest of you Creative Tuesday peeps came up with! I hope you enjoyed this rather unique take on things.

  2. I like how you have made him a friendly monster wanting to share his balloon, but that one has to use imagination to see what he really is. Lovely piece. Good luck with the competition Michael.

    1. Lissa, I'm glad you like that too. I was trying to imply that just like the two balloons, they would eventually meet! :) Thank you.

  6. Hi Michael, and here I thought you were going to be satisfied with the black and white illustration...which I absolutely love! Your perspective is spot on and your monster looks cuddly and not scary at all. I hope you win the competition as you are so talented. I am sorry I missed out participating again, but I'm putting the final marketing tweaks together fof my colorinb book which will be published on Amazon at the end of May. I'll be posting about it next week. ☺

  7. I see my spell check went all wonky on my last comments. That's what I get for trying to answer on my phone. When I saw your fence, I thought, that must have taken you hours. :-)

  8. Finally making my rounds through the CT participants... Love the big eyed friendly monster, lurking behind the fence, waiting... to cuddle the girl. Hahaha - good luck with the competition.
