Scribble Picnic: Cabin & Sign Up

 "Lunar Laundry"

The Man on the Moon? For this go around, I decided to show an astronaut left behind in his little shack on this barren lunar landscape, the Earth looming large. Of course, one might wonder, Where did the wood come from and how would s/he even have any water to wash the space suit? :) All questions begging for a story! Perhaps, s/he was dropped off there, supplies on board, with a mission to live alone, a la Robinson Crusoe, sending smoke signals back to earth? Maybe s/he found raw supplies down some deep crater afar? I don't quite know, but loved the twist to the theme! As you can see below, I actually inked this one in and then watercolour painted it, adding acrylic paint for some touch ups at the very end. (An earlier stage can be seen here.)

OK, your turn now! If you're on a web platform, please simply sign up below. If on Instagram or Twitter, please be sure use #scribblepicnic and tag me @dotty_hill, so those of us there can find you. Thank you for playing along. I sooo can't wait to see what everyone did! So, where will you host our cabin picnic? :) (I suggest spacesuits to the ready for here, at least!)

  4. Who'd have thought of a cabin on the moon, wonderful! Love the feel of this with your colour choice and all the detail, right down to the footprints. Also how the smoke is curling up tethering the earth, as if the astronaut is not letting go of his/her home. Love it!!

    1. I'm glad you mentioned the smoke, actually, as I had forgotten to note that connection so jsut added that into the writing. Thank you! I like what you catch here. Totally.

  5. as I see it, if a person really want to make something happen, then this astronaut can in fact have all those things she needed. I actually think the smoke from the roof can reach toward the earth and that's how the astronaut travels but I guess one can interpret in other ways.

this is amazing, love the colors. I like the footsteps at the bottom, a really good touch to the piece. I think your works lately seems to be more creative than usual, it seems that way, to me.

    have a lovely day.

    1. OOh, love that idea, Lissa. And yes, as mentioned to Linda above, that connection to the earth through the smoke was deliberate, almost as if the smoke and the clouds on earth were one and the same. So, your idea works in some emotional connection way, if not mystical too. Thank you for noticing that~ :)

  6. This is wonderful. I felt delight when it showed up on my screen. Very imaginative. The details are really fun too. I like how the smoke leans towards the earths atmosphere and also the round windows.

  7. This is SO incredibly creative, Michael! I seriously smiled and thought, "WOW!" as soon as I saw your lunar cabin. Wonderful design and coloring. It makes me wish I could bring that astronaut a hot cup of coffee and a cozy pair of sweats for when he or she isn't wearing that bulky spacesuit! Love it.

    1. That's great! Love it when that happens. Now, that would be an excellent addition to the story, perhaps focusing on the astronaut bouncing around in the low gravity trying to sit back on the chair with the coffee sloshing about as s/he goes! :) Thank you.

    1. Hee. Earth actually was the hardest! I had to pull out the acrylic paint to cover up all my mistakes, so your comment is very appreciated, Sue!

  13. SURPRISE Michael!!! I just had to join in despite not being an artist. I'm hoping you don't kick me out because I may have cheated with assistance from my camera! But I know you always like to see my potting shed - so here's another view.
Love your art and the accompanying story. I also wanted to use my entry as a way to introduce this fun Wednesday group of artists to my blog readers. I know some of them are very creative and will perhaps join in.

Hope you're cooking something tasty tonight!
    Hugs - Mary

P.S. If I can stay, I'll come back with an umbrella next week!

    1. OOh, well, if you aren't off to some exotic locale somewhere, we would so love to have you join the picnic again, Mary! And yes, it was a big surprise when I saw the name there! Loved it. Also, while regular photos are not part of the collective, other forms or media are whenever one is creative with it involving some process as you have done with you and as commented there. I love how you found a way to combine the things you love in to a creative piece and actually coloured it. Thank you so much for that and for highlighting this picnic. If some of your visitors want to join in for the next theme, Umbrellas, by all means! Woudl lvoe to see what they bring to the picnic! thank you again.

Oh, and while I did not make anything special tongiht to experiment with, I did have some left over baked veg that was even better the second night, although, admittedly nothing fancy to look at but the looks were deceiving as it was actually pretty good! :)

  14. A cabin on the moon... who would have ever thought! :-) I'm glad that you did! It definitely begs for a story to go along with it.
I'm about half done visiting the other cabins, and am thinking mine looks a little plain alongside them. But at least it's sturdy!

    1. The only thing that matter, is that you did it and added it here. Variety is the spice of life and every entry is so appreciated. Yours has a soft and dreamy quality to it so be thrilled as I am for you! As i often say, it's the process of excercising one's right side of the brain that counts and even if simply a scribble, unfinished, even that will have done the job. You did more that that!! Thank you again and so glad you, like Alex, got yours under the wire to add to the mix here. :) Like her too, there is always tomorrow to visit people. for me, I did mine in three stages between other things. All caught up now...unless someone adds something between now and midnight! :)
