Fancy Curls with that?
Time once more for Scribble Picnic... with curls! My idea was to show a different kind of curly, one not involving hair on animals (as I initially imagined) or even including people, as depicted the last three times! Once settling on this idea, putting on my Graphic Designer hat and doing something harder-edged allowed it to be more pop-art punchy and probably have more commercial appeal too. The colours are in anticipation of Autumn and could be representative of those up-coming Fall holidays without necessarily having to borrow an obvious element from any. All said and done, I'm happy with the Kasbah feel to this and will probably offer it as a card later. There were some other colour considerations too for the background by the way, but, really, I prefer this palette the best.
OK, now it's your turn to present us what curly offerings are in order for our Picnic this week! Ooh, anyone offering curly fries, or at least brewing up some hot, strong, swirling Moroccan coffee? :)

love the colours and the different curls :D
ReplyDeleteOH, I love this pop-art interpretation for the theme, Michael! Nice choice of palette too. It would look great on a card.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I was late leaving a comment on your post last week and a message said my comment would be 'visible after approval'. Not sure if you've checked your Comments Awaiting Moderation yet but just wanted you to know I did leave one.
OOh, I had no idea there were any comments awaiting approval from older posts! I jsut approved them all --about 30 in all-- from others too. Thank you for pointing that out. how delightful! I was wondering why some hadn't had a chance to comment yet on various posts. Ha. I need to look into that moderation thing a bit more as the point was that I would be alerted so would know it was there but, obviously, didn't!
DeleteNo worries, Michael. If you go to your blog settings... Under Posts, Comments and Sharing, you can add your email address into the Email Moderation Requests box. Maybe it's empty at the moment? I'm glad you found others to approve also. :)
DeleteYes, the email I have associated with this blog, is one I never use so that causes probs right there.
DeleteI know all about email addresses rarely used...been there, done that. You can always change it to your more regularly accessed email address. Nobody else sees it but you. :)
DeleteI love this, I feel you are growing in your art, would never think of curls this way. I love the colour combination and the graphic quality of this piece.
ReplyDeleteHa, thank you, Christine. I'm not sure it's really that as much as just making a little more time to work on each piece lately! As in taking ages....! Haha. Well, actually, this piece would be the exception as I thumbnail sketched it and then rendered it up pretty quickly. Love it when that happens. Graphic design is my first forte really and my first passion .:)
DeleteAh yes, Micheal, I am ready for fall and fall colors and what better than a steam curling hot drink on a cool morning. This simple, but difficult artwork is delightful. And, I am already struggling with next weeks post ... you do get some challenging ideas :)
ReplyDeleteAndrea @ From The Sol
Andrea, for the next theme, I will add a pinterest board. :)
DeleteI like the idea of something hot and steaming as the nights draw closer too. Thank you.
Fantastic graphic work, it would make great signage for a coffee shop.
ReplyDeleteYour piece is quit striking. I like how the background effects the color of the steam. I find it fun how you have many styles to your various art.
ReplyDeleteI like to challenge myself to try different things as a broader repertoire makes me more competitive in the commercial world. Thank you.
DeleteLove this Michael - the cup design is smashing (just don't drop and smash it!) and I love the colors you picked. Coffee, hot chocolate. . . . . . or of course tea - perfect for all.
ReplyDeleteI'm back - sorry I missed a couple of weeks - life has been far too hectic around here and I totally lost all my creativity genes - if I even have any!
Have a great week - Mary
Great to have you back too. Hot choc woudl be great, Mary, and your puns are so lovely. :) Thank you.
DeleteI think it would look nice on a card too, I like the curls on the mug. I'm not a tea of coffee drinker, so my mug would have apple cider in it.
ReplyDeletehow about hot choc? Apple cider soudns good too. Really? no tea? I wonder if you would like a proper cup made my me or Alex? Hmm.... So many "teas" here are made so horribly that I find when people have the real deal they end up loving it! most people have no idea how to make good proper tea! :)
DeleteNope, no hot chocolate either. My husband likes all sorts of tea, yet to find one I like, but there could be one out there somewhere I suppose :)
Deletethis would be definitely be something a graphic designer would create, well, I would. but I would make the cup pattern color a bit subdue as when I look at this on my screen, all the white and black shapes comes out very strong but I do like the orange/black/white combination.
ReplyDeletemy head's a bit hazy this week and I thought I had more time and foolishly redraw and rescan and by the time I got to even start coloring, well, it's already thursdays. I guess it's just one of weeks that just flew by & I didn't even notice.
I'll be around for 'tie it up' though you may have already seen the piece as I posted a draft.
have a lovely day.
Yes, get you on the black and white and that as becasue I was initially going to jsut use thee colours but couldn't when considering the steam. I like the boldness of the black but a dark warm grey would work well too. Thank you! Sorry we missed you this week. Always love having you on board.
DeleteI love those curls on your mug as well as the steamy curls. Wonderful graphic piece. I've seen some very artistic coffee shop gift cards and this would make a beautiful one.
ReplyDelete:D
DeleteI feel bad I skipped this theme... it would have been fun by looking at everyone's pieces. Love your graphic design, especially the color choice for fall. Hope to be back with you next week..
ReplyDeleteSorry you didn't make it for this curls one but so glad you got in on the Black and White one, Andrea. As it is, I think next week's them is gogin to be particularly engaging and curious how people interpret it--"Watch Out!"
DeleteHi Michael, can I join if I don't draw, if I paint instead?
ReplyDeleteYes, of course: as noted here: https://dottyhill.blogspot.com/p/join-scribble-picnic.html
DeleteThank you for asking!
