Pass the Strawberry Jam, would you?
What could go better than strawberry anything with a nice Scribble Picnic Spring day? Well, here's my attempt at drawing my teatime snack this (Tuesday) late afternoon. Actually, it was a low sugar, all-natural strawberry spread but I made it look more like a chunky jam and added a bite out of it, just for fun. :)
So, yes, another still life of sorts, and since the last one was so enjoyed, again, a fairly scribbly, looser sketch... although, admittedly, the details on the English muffins took ages. (No wonder I was getting quite nippish all over again by 10:30pm!)
By the way, these are based off some little plates we own — perfect for Tea. Ours though don't actually have the decoration as shown here, added for a further tie-in to the theme.
Anyway, I do so love strawberries, how about you? Can't wait to see what everyone else provides. Thank you!
Hi Michael :) I love your strawberry jam! The detail is really good, you did such an amazing job, I even see the little strawberry seeds :) Your English muffin is great, that would be a perfect little breakfast for me! Nice detail on the plate too. This is a fun one! :)
ReplyDeleteThere's just something about strawberries that's so intrinsically fun, right? Thank you, Rain.
DeleteOoooh, that would make a nice addition to my breakfast this morning. I could just scoop it off the plate - it looks so real!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how "real" looking it got as that's never my intent since realism leaves me bored (vs. something impressionistic or imaginative) but it does, doesn't it? :) I did just look away and imagine the front English muffin's jam and that bit entirely then jsut had fun withe the jam bits. Thank you so much, Lorraine.
DeleteWow this is so realistic, you are so talented Michael, adding the decorative touches, not to mention, I love strawberry jam. Taking a bite makes the piece that much more yours.
ReplyDeleteI realise now that my bite is rather askew but I was rushing. LOL. And yes, I love strawberry jam too. Yum. Thank you, Christine, for that lovely comment. :)
DeleteFairly scribbly? Are you kidding ... this looks good enough to reach in, pick them up and gobble them down. In fact, you made my mouth water (I haven't had breakfast yet and I am hungry). Now I will have this on my mind until I can have a biscuit with strawberry jelly ... Oh wait, I have biscuits and strawberry jelly. Have a great day, Micheal, I am going to go eat breakfast :)

Ha, well, I made my mouth water too, actually, dear Andrea. you know, if I have to have "jelly," let it be on a biscuit as you have and then I'll quite like it but jam's still my preference. Lol. Thank you, Andrea.
DeleteP.S. Thank you for the nice compliment last week, Micheal. I so enjoy the artists on this site, including you, so it is easy to find nice things to say. So, once again ... I am off to my scrumchy breakfast. Enjoy your week and I will see you at next weeks Tea Party :)

"Scrumchy" - I like that :). Thank you again for all that, Andrea. Truly. It builds community.
DeleteAll that's missing is a dollop of Devon (or Cornish) clotted cream, haha!
ReplyDeleteI love the plate Michael - adding the raised strawberries to the rim really is adorable, and what a delightful color - I think teatime at your place must be a sweet event. . .
. . . . . .and yes, a well-toasted English muffin is always good for breakfast no matter what you spread or balance on it!
Thanks for the email - will stay in touch!
Mary -
That's funny, Mary, as I hardly ever have an English muffin for breakfast, unless with an egg, but def not jam as I like that then for teatime and it;s fewer calories than a typical slice of bread. :) But now, maybe I should try some Devon clotted cream. Sounds divine! Speaking of which, I suspect you can tell the difference between Devon and Cornish clotted cream perhaps? I doubt I could. Both are yummy in my book, regardless.
DeleteI swear Michael, I tried twice to pick up one of those English muffins and stick it in my mouth. How real can you paint....goodness you could sell me anything with your realist work. Gotta go wash the strawberry spread off my fingers, thank you very much...haha. Love this Michael...and Ill take that lovely plate too, if its for sale. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I so love your descriptive comment there, dear Wanda. Thank you so much. It's funny as I wasn't even trying to necessarily make anything realistic per se. AS I said to Lorraine, I didn't even look at anything at the end whilst imagining the jam (as mine had Peanut butter actually and no bite taken). That was the funnest part for me. And yes, if one has to be sticky, let it be from Strawberry jam!
DeleteSo good to have you back. It's been yonks. Thank you.
What a scrumptious job you have done for this week's prompt, Michael! The wetness and shine on the jam are perfect and those muffins look fantastic! LOVE the plate too with the strawberry design! Even though loose, your sketch looks quite realistic...nice work indeed.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I'm not a huge fan of strawberries but I will eat them when mixed with other fruit. My Dad adored strawberries so they are special to me in that regard. Strawberry jam is probably the most popular jam ever and I'm probably in the minority when I say I love plum or blackberry jam best.
Have a lovely week! :)
Actually, you know, plum jam may be my favourite too but I also love orange marmalade, must admit. Oops, I should have allowed for some other fruit option! And you know, Ive had strawberries that were either too tart or too sweet too. There really is a perfect time to eat them which helps too.
DeleteWasn't trying to be particularly realistic but did want it to seem buttery and gooey. :) I guess I accomplished that. :) Yes! Thank you so much, Serena...and for jumping in when you don't really like strawberries in the first place! lol.
I love marmalade on toast for brekkie! While I may not be a fan of strawberries, they certainly make a great sketch subject. :)
DeleteOh, I can just taste that wonderful strawberry spread! And what fun to be served on that darling plate. Wish I could send you a slice of fresh strawberry pie to enjoy on it, too!
ReplyDeleteOOh, me too. :)
