Did you say, "Cookies?"

Moove on over, peeps, I've got the milk and cookies!

It's time once again for our weekly Scribble Picnic meetup group. I'm so looking forward to seeing what kind of cookie (or biscuit perhaps) each of you chose.

For myself, I wanted to put on my Graphic Designer hat and do something a little more corporate, less hands-on than the Inktobers, and certainly more mainstream... cute, even! From my initial pen sketch to the final Illustrator vector art above, I must have rendered at least 5 versions of this cow, simplifying each time and making it more child-like/friendly until getting it to where I wanted.

You know, the funny thing is, waaay back when I was still fresh off the boat, so to speak, it seemed disgusting to me that anyone would actually want milk with their "cookies," let alone dunk it (as few admittedly do here). No doubt, in part, it was because I detested the creamy, clumpy, often spoilt milk we used to get delivered by the milkman each day back in London. To me, of course, the perfect compliment to any biscuit was a hot, strong yet milky cup of tea but as one couldn't easily find electric kettles or "real" English tea then, I didn't have that either for yonkers. Needless to say, imported tea is now in abundance (thank God) and whilst still loving to dunk a good chocolate digestive in a hot cuppa, I have now been known to enjoy cookies with milk... and yes, even dunked! Shocking, I know. What can I say, but one learns to rightfully, thankfully, adapt! (Well, OK, I still am not into camping and hiking, endless beerfests, and most things typical Coloradoans yearn for but, hey, I'm getting there... sloooowly!)  :)

So, that's my cookie story, what's yours?

  1. Yay, I can leave a comment, earlier I could not.
This is a fun piece. Quite professional looking. I think it would make a wonderful advertisement. The cow has an innocent look to it's face, like milk and cookies seem like an innocent food.

    1. It is very stylized, true. I didn't want the chips to look like raisins I think a lot of choc chip cookies can look like so left them as perfect circles.

  4. When I scrolled through my Instagram feed I actually thought this was one of the advertisements that they stick in from time to time. Then I looked again and saw your moniker. I think it's great. I'm not much of a cookie dunker myself unless it's Oreo's in milk.

  5. You certainly hit the mark with looking corporate. Well done!
I know they're supposed to go together, but personally, I can't stand dunking cookies!

    1. It's an American thing. I woudln't say they are suppose to but definitely a big part of British culture that one really cant be English if not liking to do that! :) Thanks.

  6. Good to see your comments are back this morning. I have to say it was frustrating clicking on "comments" and nothing happening. I love your cow and that it took you 5 tries to get it where you wanted it ... that's the perfectionist in you, Micheal. You have to have talent beyond the first sketch to make it up to 5 tries LOL. Cookies and milk ... not my favorite either, though I have to admit it happens occasionally. I am not a big milk drinker, so I'm with you when you say a nice hot cuppa and a cookie. As for hiking and camping, I have loved them in my day, but this old body wouldn't do well sleeping on the ground. Have a wonderful week, Micheal ... love your sweet faced cow :)

    1. you have no idea how much I enjoy reading your thoughtful, sweet comments, Andrea. thank you so much. I see that we are the same with milk, aren't we? :) And yes, you are so right! I am a total perfectionist with my stuff, especially design work, even production stuff-- I have to do it way better than is really needed perhaps. :) It was dirlled in me in art/desng school and through my career. Thank you.

  7. Sorry I missed this week - we went to New Orleans to celebrate granddaughter Jasmin's 21st and for the first time in years I traveled without my MacBook. Had no time to be 'playing' on the computer with so much excitement visiting NOLA. We'd been before a few times but it was Jasmin's first!
Love what you did here Michael but really was expecting Jaffa Cakes!!!!
    Hugs -Mary

P.S. Our first night here this season when it will probably go below freezing, yippee!!!!!

    1. Aw, I hope Jasmin had a great time and am sure when I get to your blog to catch up will get to read more there. Lovely. Never been to NOLA, as you (others) call it. How fun.

Love jaffa cakes but as alex isn't wild about orange, will skip it just to avoid eating all the biscuits myself. :)
