a New Year Scribble Picnic

Happy New Year! Here's my celebratory ode to 2018 with a pink bubbly confetti dalmation! :) What on earth? Well, the word, "sparkly," kept coming to mind so that inspired me for the design, which in turn, reminded me of the title graphics from Mod '60's shows, like Bewitched and such. I'd bring a snack to our picnic but am not really sure what was popular back then. Hmm... Maybe one of you can enlighten me? The only thing I can thing of, funnily enough, is Connery's "Shaken, not stirred" Vodka Martinis but not being really into alcoholic drinks, perhaps I'll just bring some Sprite or, better yet, how about some good old fashioned Lucozade? How about you? Sign up below and let us know how your New Year turned out.

P.S. The new themes are updated on the side bar and I'll announce the giveaway winner in another post on Thursday to keep this short. Please check back. Who knows? Maybe you'll might be the next winner! :)

  1. Happy New Year to you and Alexandra, Michael! I adore your Dalmatian illustration...pretty in pink comes to mind and quite dazzling too! I had Vodka Cruisers to bring in the New Year...close enough? From what I've seen in movies from the 60's, egg salad sandwiches seemed to be fairly popular...or was that the 70's? I know salad or fruit gelatin moulds were a big thing in the 60's. Ewwwww....

I'm looking forward to the picnics this year! So exciting!

  3. Oh it looks all bubbly like New Year's Eve ... is that little friend a member of the family? Snacks in the 60's ... all I can remember is getting cinnamon rolls at the Union (I was in college at the time) every morning ... they were freshly made and oh so delicious. Otherwise, Clark Bars and Black Jack gum come to mind. I got all political in my post this week ... hope you don't mind :)

    1. Ha, I;ve not even heard of Clark Bars and Black Jack gum , Andrea. Looking those up now. So the question is, do you still remember how they tasted? Thank you.

    2. Sure do remember how they tasted ... and there are many others treats I remember from my childhood. Some of them I can still get if I order them on line ... but, trying not to eat too many sweets, so I don't bother.

    1. Ha, you might be surprised jsut how much I mull over these themes before committing to anything. And then I run out of time and have to rush through them but even then they take me a good 5-6 hours or so from beginning to end, sometimes longer and sometimes shorter.

  6. Hi Michael :) Happy New Year!!!! :))))))
I LOVE that font and yes, it does remind me of Bewitched!! Love it! My Alex and I listen to the old Jack Benny radio shows from the 30's through the 50's and the biggest "snack" at that time was JELLO lol (according to all the ads)...so maybe I'll bring a good old funky-looking jello mold to the picnic! :)

    2. I modified the font and moved the letters up as wanted too to help add to that affect of sparkle.

  8. . . . . . I'm bringing my leftover mince pies and brandy butter to melt on top when we heat them up. . . . . . . . . . with a big jug of eggnog 'doctored' with more brandy, whipped cream and grated nutmeg! Hey, it's so cold here and we need warming up.

Love your New Year piece Michael - I have a feeling this will be a great year for you and Alexandra.

    Hugs - Mary and Bob.

  9. If you're bringing Sprite, the suave, Bond-ish you may wish to change the phrase to "Stirred and definitely NOT shaken!" lol

I love the illustration and yes it definitely catches the eye and invokes the nostalgia of Bewitched! You know who I miss? Paul Lynde, who played Uncle ??? on that show! And Endora of course. . . reminds me of a Great Aunt I had who could never get anyone's spouses name right and we always thought it was on purpose! :)

A Happy New year to you both and the best of wishes and hopes for all of the creative wonders in the year to come!

  10. Very Mod! At first I thought you were trying to let us know that you had a new family member, but I like your "Sparkles"! I seem to remember my parents drinking "Highballs" back then and fondue pots were the hot thing. My mother was into Jello salads too. What's going to be the "hot" thing in 2018??? Happy New Year to you and Alexandra - I hope it's a happy, healthy, and prosperous one!
