Hot Dogs and scribble picnics

Can you tell I was thinking of ketchup and mustard here? Admittedly, while already having the idea of drawing a hot, sweaty, rugged bulldog, the color scheme didn’t come to me until seeing Alex’s piece earlier Tuesday (wait till you see it, so fun, and she had no idea what I had in mind — great minds think alike).

OK, your turn now....

P.S. Important announcement: due to increasingly fewer people visiting the sign ups and a couple of our regular contributors unable to make it the last several weeks, I’ve decided to postpone our Scribble Picnics here through at least the hot days of Summer (for most of us). So, ignore the other sign up themes for now please. I’ll announce something on that Wednesday, Aug. 22nd. In the interim, like many of you, we too have a fair bit going on anyway. I will still try to do a few pieces but maybe with Colour Collective on Instagram instead? We shall see. Sorry to rain on the picnics, so to speak, for those of you, like our wonderful Rain, who enjoy the ongoing weekly prompts to keep motivated! I hope you understand. Thanks for playing along today. :)

  2. Michael, let me condiment you on, oh, I mean compliment you on your "Hot Dog". Great choice of colors and so fitting. I was going to beg off this week as I've had bad experiences with both hot dogs and dogs in general which where making it difficult for me to even think of something worthwhile to contribute to the picnic this week. I do look forward to seeing what everyone else has brought though. I hope to get back to "picnicking" with the rest of you in late August. Have a wonderful summer - will be following............

  3. Hi Michael! :) LOVE your hot dog!!! Reminds me a lot of the faces on the pugs I had, my beloved little pugglies lol...I'm a sucker for a squishy dog nose! Great colours and I love the little drips!

Awww...I'll miss the picnic, but you know I'm doing lots of daily stuff on IG now myself, so I can concentrate on my spooky stuff!!! :) Hope everyone enjoys the summer! See you back in August (here at least!!!) :)

    1. Yes, and I’m really enjoying your spooky illustration too, Rain. Loving them. Makes me long for Inktober again as I really want to complete my fables theme from last year - still have a lot of letters to do. :)

  5. Wonderful take on the theme, Michael! Love your bulldog! You and I had similar thoughts on this one. hehe

I will miss the regular picnic but I do understand. We can all keep in touch via our blogs and/or Instagram in the meantime. :)

  6. Your bulldog looks to be just begging to be let inside with the air conditioning! Clever idea with the red and yellow!

Didn't think I'd make it this week, but saw that the Linky Widget gave me an extra day, so... :-) Will look forward to seeing what you come up with for Aug. 22. Enjoy the remainder of summer!

    1. It did? Well, I’m glad you got to do something then. That extra day was entirely unintentional actually. Ha. Thank you.

  9. I didn't even think to separate the words, I keep thinking of the food. this piece makes so much sense. the colors are perfect for this theme.

it's summer so it's understanding that you want to take a break from scribble picnics. I actually haven't done anything for sp, so... perhaps you could do a whole month of no themes or prompts and people just post whatever new art they are creating? I find summer to be very unproductive because of the heat but I suppose that's an excuse.

I'm thinking of joining instagram and now I'm checking people's instagram. the link at your sidebar doesn't work, fyi.

    have a lovely summer.
