Seasons change

Say, "Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter!

Like with this lil' bundled up hedgie, we're ready for the new season. How about you?

As if we haven't already had enough change actually, with our move here to Kentucky from Colorado and all that entailed! Nevertheless, I'm slowly adjusting to a whole new country paradigm, and in the midst of it, new opportunities arise. Alexandra's been literally painting the town white with drawing beautiful winter scenes for 5 of the establishments in our tiny little downtown. It's really looking festive. We're hoping it draws people into the area too to come shop local and explore the quaint little shops in old town. We're doing out bit to help bring new life here, hopefully.

It's slow but steady going and with it, new developments are underfoot. Aside from the branding design agency that's soon to launch with my business partner, Alexandra and I actually have some new venture we're launching soon. I know, I've alluded to it before, but next week, we'll officially announce things so... stay tuned! We're flapping our wings and learning to fly higher through various unseen challenges, obstacles and a fair bit of unexpected. In fact, we're pretty excited about this project.  Can't wait to tell you more...

Now, back to this drawing which ties in to these above developments too. Having figured out an idea and rendered the illustration, I'm handing this off to Alexandra to sprinkle in her own particular charm, painting in the colour, etc. As it is, we often bounce ideas off each other — she'll inspire me  and I'll art direct her pieces or some combination thereof. Creatively, our process really is a match made in heaven. As with that New Year bear drawing/painting a few years back (anyone remember that?), it's fun again to literally both work on an actual piece together where it ends up being truly our shared cozy vision. What can I say? We love winters and the holidays!

So, would you like to see the final piece when it's completed? Want to learn more about our newest venture? Check back here, Sunday, December 2nd, which happens to be our anniversary, by the way. :) Magic is in the air... :)

Speaking of which, let's see how the each of you interpreted this week's theme. Can't wait to discover what you've done. Already having made a few cups of hot chocolate this month, I think we'll bring that along to the picnic here as well. If you're gonna be cold, you might as well enjoy it!

  1. Michael,

This little hedgehog is soooo adorable! Great job!!! :) It's turne awfully cold here in East Tennessee. It's currently 20.5º at 5:49am EST. I'm bundled in cozy sweats and fuzzy socks wrapped in my marshmellow fluff hoodie.

Definitely I want to see the final touches to Hedgie and yes, I would like to read of your new venture. Hopefully, I will remember to visit next week while on staycation with DH. I might be busy doing things with my favorite guy but maybe I'll find a moment to hop over or to check my emails. Let me say in advance HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! I'm sure to not remember that unless I read it again. Anyhow, thanks for the challenge and for hosting this fun! Have a good week.

    1. Thank you so much, Cathy. So glad. Enjoy your staycation! Yes, I can imagine how cold it is there as it's freezing here too, a little further north!

  3. I love these little hedgies. Looking forward to the completed piece. It has to be very rewarding to be able to collaborate and create together. There are a few projects my husband and I have done over the years - he the construction and me the artistic part - and I always cherish those. New seasons with new dreams for you and Alexandra - may they come to fruition.

    1. Haha, Alexandra can be very happy I DON'T do construction of any kind or we would have undoubtedly had something come crashing down on our heads by now! Heh, thank you, Lorraine.

  4. Sorry dears, nothing to add today - just back (1 AM when we got home after flight delays) from AZ and we're both really sick with colds/sinus infections, and desert dryness perhaps! This laptop going into shop today to have everything transferred to new one, and Bob's desktop died - awaiting new equipment to be set up hopefully next week - so have no computer to work, grrrr!

Sounds like all is coming together there Michael - glad to hear that - and look forward to hearing the news. Love to you both.

Hi everyone - will be at the next picnic hopefully.

  5. Your hedgehog is adorable and I'm intrigued by your post!! :) Save some hot chocolate for me, though I'd probably "sweeten" it a little bit with some bourbon. ;)

  6. Adorable illustration for this week, Michael! I will look forward to seeing the end result. Wishing you and Alexandra all the best on your new ventures. Can't wait to hear all about them.

Sorry I am unable to participate this week. We have been back and forth to hospital emergency rooms since Sunday with my 83 year old Mum. A scan revealed she has two fractures in her spine and is in extreme pain. She is now recuperating in hospital until she is well enough to go home. It's been quite a stressful time. :(

Enjoy the rest of your week! :)

    1. Wow, Serena, with Aleandra having received a fracture to her spine (and a tail bone injury), I can only imagine how awful that is for your mother, especially at 83! I'm so sorry to learn that. In fact, it's amazing you even left a note. My heart goes out to you all there.

Thank you on the other comments.

  7. Well, I hope we are ready as winter is surely here. We have snow and ice and freezing temperatures ... seems early, but as I am a lover of winter, along with my dog, Izzi, I plan to fully enjoy it.

So your move has opened new doors for you. Is your business partner in Kentucky? I love that you and Alexandra are merging your talents. I am guessing it will be wonderful moments of growth. And, I will, for sure, be looking in on you this Sunday (Happy Anniversary :)!!) to see what you have up your sleeve. It's like an early Christmas, full of surprises.

Even with the 2 weeks I seem to struggle to find the time for my art. Part of my problem is that I still don't have a space for my art. I have an office but no table to draw on and in my kitchen where I always did a lot of my drawing at the old house, there are no countertops yet. I will get there, however, I have promised myself that. So until Sunday when Alexandra unveils the finished work of art and you announce your new adventures ... Have a wonderful rest of your week.

    1. I'm so glad to see this, Andrea, and totally get you on not having a place to do your art right now. We end up having to go to the only coffee shop around here oftentimes as it's very limiting where we are to do such.

As for this Sunday- plans changed as Alexandra was ion a lot of pain and has dealt with that a fair bit this week so I'm late getting that news up here. Just about tot write the post now and have put things up on my Instagram. Sorry to keep all of you waiting, however.

Oh, and finally - most of us can't leave comments on your blog so if you aren;t getthing them that is part of the issue. Can you please check? I know that Rain has left you one below so please check that out too. Thank you so much.

Good luck on those countertops! The sooner, the better, right? :)

  8. Hope you don't mind Michael, I can't leave a comment on Andrea's blog either so I wanted to just say, Andrea, your scribble is very cute!!! I love it! By the way, if I click to leave a comment on your blog Andrea, it forces me to open a Google Plus account, which I don't want to do, so that's why I can't leave a comment it seems! :)

  9. Well, I am dumbfounded ... I am so not tech savvy and I don't know where to begin to fix this problem. I sent a message to Google and they have not responded. And, the only person I know who could have helped me is two hours away, now that I have moved. Guess I will keep looking for answers, but in the meantime, I guess I will have to go commentless :(

    P. S. There is a message on my settings page that says "Blogger no longer supports open ID" anyone know what that means?
