Polish Sausage? No, - Chicken!

Have you ever seen Polish chicken with their peculiarly plumed heads? Fancy as they might be, the chicks with their scrawny long necks and odd feathered tufts are particularly funny looking  As with most babies though, they're still awfully cute!

This was my first foray into ink dip pen work since last year's Inktober. (If at all interested, you can see my latest here.)

So, nothing too imaginative this time around and even then, I ended up redrawing it as the smaller I got, the better and more inky it looked. Now, let's see what the rest of you fried up! (Um, is that Ok to say? Maybe it's being in Kentucky influencing me here but have to say, we've only seen one KFC since getting here, oddly enough.)

Thanks for playing along, guys, and joining in. New theme is up on the side bar. That will be fun! :)

  2. Good morning Michael! Hope your day is as bright and sunny as it is here - although I wish it would cool down a bit, doesn't feel like fall yet!
Love your Polish chicken - now I want to know what the Polish rooster looks like, haha!
Don't see the new challenge for next time yet!
Glad things sound calmer for you and A - looking forward seeing her join in here today hopefully.
Off now to toast my 'soldiers' - I have an appetite and thinking of breakfast in the gazebo!
    Hugs - Mary

  3. Hello Micheal, long time no see. I am finally trying to get back to some form of normalcy after our move, but it is going to take a long time as we are doing some building and upgrading on our new home. I must say, though, that it is great to be back and I look forward to doing my art again and sharing with friends. Hope all is well with you ... I know you have made a major move so I am sure it is hard for you as well. Love your little scrawny chicken ... you always surprise me with what you come up with. Have a wonderful week (or two weeks as the case may be).

    1. Ooh, good to see you again, Andrea! You moved too? From where to where? Yes, this move is being challenging for me on many fronts but we don't feel we will be here for more than a few years so am trying to make the most of it and, while finances are tighter, it is cheaper here and there are so many places nearby I;d love to see when able!

      Thank you.

    2. We didn't move as far as you, just from the far north side of Chicago to the far west side of Chicago ... but we are dramatically downsizing which meant that we had to get rid of 54 years of accumulation and then pack the rest ... at my age, moving across the street would have been an effort :) I hope you do move back to Colorado some day ... it is surely a beautiful place to be and I can't think of a better way of starting each day that gazing out my window at the beautiful Rockies. Meanwhile, good luck with your change of place and I know you will make it a wonderful experience.

    3. Well that is a big move for you, surely. And your fam will appreciate the downsizing too! Congrats for surviving that.

Yes, I don't think I can handle KY for more than one more summer, actually, and I do miss Colorado's weather but more so--the kids and gradnkids, naturally. I wish I could have just stayed but clearly a change was needed.

  4. Oh that's a cute little chicken!!! :) As I mentioned, I do love that colour with the black, very nice! :) As far as ink goes, mine are in the form of Sharpies for now :) I'm having a lot of fun with Inktober actually. I didn't think I could get into it, but as long as I keep the October-ish theme in my head, I'm finding some fun ideas!! :)

That made me laugh that you didn't see many KFC's...lol...I have a great memory of my Grandfather taking us to KFC when I was a kid, that big bucket of fried chicken...mmmmm....now my stomach couldn't handle it!

I look forward to the next theme, I don't see it yet either! :)

    2. Oooh, I already know which Looney Tune will be on the "bottle"!!! ;)

    3. you do? Ooh, I am racking my brain wondering which one but am sure it will make total sense. your vast familiarty with Loony Tunes is so impressive.

So, which horror movie is it tonight and what it your favourite? :)

      Delete
    4. I'll leave you guessing which Looney Tune!! :)

We've been watching the Stephen King movies, Salem's Lot and Silver Bullet so far (nothing to write home about lol)...but last night we watched a movie called The Night Digger (1971) it was a little disturbing... but at the end we thought it was so well done. Tonight I think it might be another Stephen King, "1408", it's a newer one with John Cusack. When we run out of the cheesy horrors, it'll be some Hammers. We saw all the Draculas last year, now we're thinking of the Mummies and the Frankensteins! We can't get enough of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing!!! :) :o

    5. My favourite horror is hard to say...I really enjoy the older films from before the 80's, but then some of the newer ones scare the bleep out of me...I'm just not really into gore and torture and that crap...I like to get scared, but in a sophisticated way lol!

  5. You drew a cute little guy! Personally, I love fried chicken! What, you've only spotted on KFC in Kentucky? That's crazy! We have a few of them in Knoxville, Tennessee and you can't go anywhere in our general area without seeing at least one. Kentucky does have Lee's Chicken which is similar to KFC. We used to have a Lee's years ago but it closed shop in the late 90s if not before. We actually liked Lee's over Kentucky Fried Chicken but KFC has improved over the years, so I'm not sure if we'd feel the same. My take on Chicken is a little different and I did not use ink. I'm using my iPad. :) Thanks for hosting the fun!

    1. Hi Cathy! Great to have you on board. And, no, you didn't have to use ink - that was only for those doing inktober. So glad you've joined in. Looking forward to seeing your piece.

Speaking of pieces...chicken pieces that is, Yes, we have plenty of Lee's Chicken around here but Alexandra, my wife, doesn't like them that much so I've not been yet. Just saw another KFC in Elizabethtown which is about 50 mins away. N one wanted any though. Ha.

Funny you mention, Knoxville as I was just discussing why are there so many "knox" named places here and in TN? I'd love to see your neck of the woods one day. I hear that Chatanooga is really pretty too and a great place to go to see that Fall colours in the hills.

  6. lol thats so odd about not seeing a lot of KFCs in Kentucky :p

One of the towns I lived in, in the country fair, they would dye those chicken all kinds of pastel colours for Easter

good job with the dip pen making the chick look fluffy :)

  7. Your Polish chicken is so cute, Michael! I googled them and my, some have quite elaborate 'hair-styles'.

As much as it pained me I decided not to participate in INKtober this year. I have a lot going on at the moment and felt I wouldn't be able to commit fully. However, I will enjoy seeing your Inktober sketches. :)

    1. Yes, it is hard to commit. I like what Lorraine wrote - that she will follow along when able. When the prompt doesn't inspire me for the day, it's hard churning out something.

      Thanks.

  8. You should go ahead and name your chicken Kielbasa and then it can be the Polish chicken with the Polish sausage name. BTW I love it. I think you've got the fluff going. What I was wondering was how you ever came up with this theme? Was this spurred on by your "countrification"? I'll be clucking along now.

    1. Haha, no, truth be told, I wanted a simple "object" type prompt for everyone to ease into SP again and Chicken was one of the prompts for this week's inktober...so voila!

  9. My procrastination got the better of me this time! I had gotten used to having until midnight Mountain Time to get my drawing and post done, but didn't think about your move to Kentucky putting you in a different time zone! Oh well, at least I finally got my pencils and paper out again! And now I have some incentive to get at the "Bottle" drawing sooner. :-)
Chickens are quite the creatures-love yours!

    1. Oh, I'm sorry, Jolene. Didn't that of that either. That could be an issue so might have to change my time zone to MT again so it's more in the middle for everyone!

  10. no idea about polish chickens, never seen them before. but your drawing looks like a chick, a young chicken being so thin and all.

sadly, no entry from me though I did somehow drew a chicken... I want to insert a joke here but I don't know any chicken jokes.

    have a lovely day.
