Scribble Picnic: Rabbit

You're invited... to join us at Scribble Picnic! My take on this week's theme ventures down the RABBIT hole into Alice in Wonderland.

For any of you who have might have watched my last post's video, did you guess what the plaque would say? Probably not. :) That's OK. In fact, I debated about just showing my own version of the white rabbit but then thought adding a sign could make for a fun, if not unique, party invite too. And of course, especially useful for tea parties and such — not that anyone really throws those around here but, hey, maybe such cards would sell? (I'm thinking about offering these and seeing if anyone likes their novelty, if nothing else.) As for all things Tea, I'm doing my best, converting one person at a time here. I mean, look at Alexandra*! Before I met her she never had ever enjoyed tea's wonders, and now you won't find her make it through a day without at least a few cuppas. Ha-ha.

My favourite part drawing this? Scribbling frenetically the swirly lines, insinuating that marvelous Wonderland wackiness and English-like eccentricity. So, how about you? Time to show us what YOU did. Thank you for joining in... and, last but not least, HAPPY (early) EASTER to you all, whether you celebrate it, do anything at all, or not! Personally, I love everything about Easter even though, admittedly, I won't be having any eggs (albeit for the small bag of Cadbury's robin eggs already purchased) and we won't be making any big meal, especially since we don't eat ham, beef or lamb and not even sure who can come over anyway. At this rate, it might just be cinnamon rolls at lunch time! :P

*Speaking of the gal, do you know she never was given an Easter basket or eggs growing up or as an adult until I gave her one?! Speaking of that, this will be the first year I'm not making Easter baskets for anyone. Whoa.

  1. This would make wonderful invitation cards Michael, have a happy Easter if a quiet one! I didn't buy any chocolate maybe I should but we do have lots of desserts around the house.

  2. Hmm! Thinking about what type of party this invite would be for - definitely not tiny children perhaps, the buck teeth are scary. . . . . . . . . . but more likely a 'grown ups' bash, haha! Love his monocle, cravat and pocket watch - can see you dressing up like this to play host Michael, and the lovely Alexandra in her Alice blue gown handing out slices of Victoria sponge on real English china plates - with of course dainty cake forks!

Love you've left it b/w - makes a really 'down the hole' feeling.
    Just great Michael.
Happy spring - Easter blessings. Cadbury's eggs, always the finest.
We've no dinner plans either but I have bought a very pretty Italian lemon creme cake for Easter teatime - hopefully in the gazebo if a fine day.

    1. I think you are totally right, dear Mary-- not for lil' kids! Yes,I did make the teeth and eyes a wee bit scary deliberately as zaniness can be that way and when I read about how Carroll envisioned the white rabbit, he noted how it would be nervous all the time adn jittery so tried to show that.

Ha, I have to laugh--you are describing our next summer tea picnic coming up brilliantly, or hperhaps that last one. If you want to come all the way to Colorado, you will be most invited! In fact, we are thinking of renting china for the party to make it that much more special. :)

I think this piece does have a down the hole feeling too, exactly! you so pegged it.

An Italian lemon creme cake sounds utterly divine--not that I ;ve ever had one but even so! :)

  4. Mr. Michael, you've outdone yourself again. What a fabulous drawing of swirls and dapper, and right from Alice in Wonderland. I thought the swirls made me feel like I was going to fall into the hole and end up in the story...was disappointed when I didn't. HaHa. You gift is so unique as you can surprise me every week.

Last May on my 75th birthday, our children threw me a huge Mad Hatter Birthday Party, and over 50 guests came with hats and outfits from Alice in Wonderland. The decorations were unbelievable. This just reminded me of our special that day was.

    1. I love it when I can surprise you and others, always challenging myself to not take the first idea that pops into mind and see how far I can push it. In fact, coming up with the idea is usually my fave part of the process. :)

Yes, I remember reading about your mad hatter tea party well! It was really fun to see that. Glad that is a happy memeory for you, Wanda. So, what will you do for 80? I still can't believe you are 75 and so spritely. My mother, although 86, is certainly on her last legs and doing poorly. I feel it is any time now.

  5. Awesome Rabbit! He looks so spiffy in his suit and vest! Love the energy in the background, too.

  6. Your Wonderland rabbit is spot on, and he wasn't even late! He brought back a memory of riding on a float in a small town parade when I was around age ten, portraying Alice! Thank you!
I must say... my favorite holiday is Easter, almost always starting off with an Easter sunrise service. Easter blessings to all!

  7. Your rabbit is wonderful. It has such great character to it. No I did not guess the sign, but yes, i agree it would make a wonderful invite to anything. I like how loose and full of movement your lines are. Happy weekend to you!

  8. I definitely can see this as an invite to a tea party. A Mad Hatter's tea party perhaps. I actually attended a candlelit Mad Hatter's tea party several years ago at my favorite tea room. It was fun, informative, and everything was delicious and your white rabbit would have fit in very nicely. There's a write up and pictures on my blog if you'd like to see. I hope you have a very nice Easter - cinnamon rolls at lunch time sounds great to me. Maybe with some fresh strawberry crepes.

    1. Well, dear Lorraine, strawberry crepes sounds even better but the sticky wicket is actually making them! that mgiht be beyong our means, I thinking. not even sure we have the right pan for it. Love the idea though.

Wow, that party soudns so fun. I reall need to go to one one day.

Thank you! And yes, please provide link to that write up you did. :)

  9. Yes, would love this as an invitation! My aunt held a dress up tea party a few years ago.... two layers of tablecloths, the top layer in lace or cut work. All mismatched floral cups, beautifully done at little tables all around her well tended flower gardens. It was perfection, as is your artwork!

    1. Andrea, soudns so fun! I really need something like that. As it is, Alex and I throw our very own tea party each year, albeit no fancy dress up though. Although I have been a pretty good Mad hatter before. :) I might have to show that one of these days.

    2. Andrea, have not been able to leave you comments as I do not have an Instagram account. If you see this on Michael's post please know I think all your work, today's especially, is gorgeous.

  10. I think it would make a wonderful invitation to a tea party, Michael! He looks fabulous and, no, I did not guess what the sign would say. I'm glad to hear that Alexandra now enjoys tea. I definitely drink more tea than coffee...love it!

I feel sad for Alexandra that she missed out on the childhood delight of getting Easter eggs/baskets...right up until you gave her some, that is. My kids were always ecstatic each Easter Eve knowing that the Easter Bunny would visit them through the night with chocolate goodies.

Wishing you, Alexandra, and family, a magical Easter!

I did manage a WIP sketch and I squeezed in by 2½ hours according to Mr Linky's deadline, even though I actually posted it on my blog today (Thursday), my time. I hope you don't mind but I SO wanted to participate. I actually felt a little like your rabbit in the video you did...running very late. haha

  11. strange but I've never read Alice in Wonderland, in fact, I kind of just didn't like the story at all. but I know bits of the story and seen movies based on it. all I really like is the rabbit and his watch, you've captured him well with his suit and all. so no tea party then?

I wasn't able to get any drawing done due to a cold that is still lingering but that's just an excuse but mostly, I'm unmotivated, so probably no entry from me for the next few weeks.

    have a lovely day.

    1. Unmotivated is OK!

You know, funnily enough, I too have never read Alice in Wonderland and jsut like you, never like the opium inspired muse of the writer but it is def a part of English culture so I like the fancy dress part and , also like oyu, the rabbit is my fave from the bits I've seen. :)
