Scribble Picnic: Potted Plant

Time to gather for another Scribble Picnic but this time bring your pots and plants with you. Hey, we can do a virtual plant swap! How fun! Just sign up below...

For my take this go around, nothing terribly complex or clever, just a simple sketch in my little drawing pad where I've drawn a lot of my more etchy pieces in times past. :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An aside: I will be attending my mother's funeral and visiting family over the next two weeks. As such, it's unlikely I'll be able to contribute to Scribble Picnic in that time so.... question for you:
Would you like me to pre-schedule the sign ups ahead of time and you continue as normal OR postpone the picnics, resuming again on May 31st with the "Books" theme? Please let me know your individual preferences in the comments. Whatever has the most votes, is the one we'll go with. Thank you! (If we continue as is, I will certainly at least visit everyone as able, even so.)

  1. Hi Michael. This is my first time participating. My condolences on your loss. I would say that your first priority is your family so there's definitely no need to worry about being here over the next couple of weeks. Sending blessing of peace and comfort to you and yours. Tammy

    1. Tammy, I was super excited when I saw a new name up there and am jsut about to go visit your post to work though the others as well. So glad you joined us and if any delay whislt gone, my apologies! So, yes, my priority will be my family but still need to know if you all would like to keep doing scribble picnic while i am gone as I can easily post the sign ups ahead of time, scheduling them etc. Hmm..

    2. Yes, what others below said, that's what I meant. Scribble Picnic can wait. It's not a party (or picnic) without the host. Everyone clearly enjoys and appreciates your feedback. So you take care of all that you need to personally right now and we'll see you the end of the month.

  3. I love that she is a redhead. such a small, simple but lovely drawing. I suppose she is growing roses?

I don't mind either way whether you schedule the sign up or delay it. I think whatever you feel more comfortable. but if I have to choose, I would say, delay as I didn't have anything ready. & I can totally host it for you if like.

    have a lovely day.

    1. Thank you so much, Lissa! that is a great idea too....if more people want to keep pushing ahead then I will ask you to host on your blog. Will let you know. Keep checking back here too. For now, it seems like people, including yourself, would just rather wait until my return.

    2. What kind of flowers? Ha, well, like you might say, have not really thought about that. I just drew what came to mind -- something rather fun and maybe a little Dr. Seuss like?

  4. Michael,
I am easy either way but don't mind delaying the books for a couple of weeks. I think I would miss terribly your input for the picture.
I love this one you have done. What do you use to colour it in after the pens?

    1. Aw that is so lovely of you to say. Thank you. So, the pressure is on to make sure I do the one when we get back! lol. I did this with oringal pencil and then coloured pencil then touch up photo in photoshop to clean up messed up lines when doing hand work! the whole thing took not more than 45 mins though I would guess. The hardest part of all, actually, was drawing the very thin light mechanical pencil lines on the paper (so I could erase them out when done)! Why? B/c I had to figure out from my imagination how her hands woudl look and the arms, especially where the arms foold at the elbows. Initally, she had her arms across the table but it ended up looking better having her stading up and more cupping the pot which I also reduced down in size upon my third attempt to draw it. I erased most of the lines not wanted when drawing over the ones I used with a thicket and softer pencil but I did miss a few of them and so those were cloned out after the photo was taken.:)

  5. Your drawing is charming Michael. Sometimes simple is what inspires a smile, like this piece did.

  7. I love your sketch, Michael! It's admirable that you managed an entry at all with all you must have going on after your dear Mum's passing.

Personally, I would prefer to hold off on Scribble Picnic for a couple of weeks as, to me, it just wouldn't be the same without you.

I have done my potted plant sketch but haven't had a chance to post it yet. Currently out and about shopping at the moment. Will post it when I get back.

All the best to you, Alex, and the family. xx

    1. I see you got to it now so will look at that Serena. And your comment really warmed my heart too..thank you. Just goes to show, I really can't miss a week most of the times so something even simple is better than nothing. ha. but for this go around, it looks like ppl would rather jsut wait and enjoy the two weeks off!

Yes, I managed to do this Tuesday night which i'm glad was not like tongiht wher eI lost it for about 45 minutes! I think it was the song that now makes me think of her as it's one I was jsut starting to listen to right before her passing. I can sing the song to her in some senses I suppose. Thanks again for your lovely comment.

  8. Michael, she is so cute and her plant so sweet with the little tilted roses.

Please take time to be with your family, and love on them and let them love on you without any thought of this little meme we do. We will all be here when we get back, and can be working on the next weeks while we keep our thoughts and prayers on you. Safe travels, and tons of love going with you.

    1. Thank you for the wonderful words, Wanda (ooh...triple letter reiteration there)! So I can;t tell if you are saying you can keep working away on the weekly themes without me and not to worry about them or are saying you will wait until I get back and perfer to do them with me? Either way is fine. LOL.

Thank you for all your support. It relaly means so much to me, you have no idea.

    2. I meant I would keep working so I would have them all finished when you get back....you just love on your family and don't think about Scribble Picnic and we can do them when you get back and want to start it up again. Actually anything you chose is good by me.

  9. Well, isn't she a cute one. And taking such good care of that pretty plant. Such a sweet moment you've captured. It's so nice of you to ask what we all want, but I think we all want what's best for you - to be with your family and not to have to worry about keeping in touch. We'll be here when you get back. Blessings to you and your family.

  10. Whew, I got finished and linked before midnight. Wait, but of course... midnight mountain time. I had an hour to spare! Funny that you should suggest a plant exchange. I actually participated in one with some friends just this afternoon!

What a sweet plant for a sweet girl you have drawn! Those eyelashes and freckles :-)

I also don't mind a bit just postponing, and waiting until you are back to resume with Books on the 31st. Safe travels and soak up your time with family!

    1. Ah, thansk for being so clear on your preference--helps me not have to ask for clarity. :) Yes, I think that is the direction people would prefer at this rate. I did have to chuckle at the time zone difference working in your favour. Both you and Jason (new person joining us) got these in under the wire!

  11. Michael I prefer waiting on your return just to make that clear.

  12. I am so sorry that I'm just now getting a chance to leave you a note, Michael. Colin now crawls at lightening speed, and has been keeping me literally RUNNING after him (I've already had to chase after him twice, just since I started typing this on my iPhone!) My deepest condolences to you and your family - very sad to hear of your motbwr's recent passing. I've obviously fallen off the Scribble Picnic boat lately, with all the running around after this little tot! I do hope to join in again soon, but my vote would be to resume the fun upon your return. I do hope that you have a safe journey across the pond and that you get some quality time with loved ones. Perhaps you will share a few photos of your travels when you get a free moment here and there. Sending you big hugs!

    1. Thank you so much, Cassie, and great to hear for you! Yes, parenting can be demanding but oh so worth it! Enjoy! Whever you can join out picnics, all the better, but, regardless, jsut glad you left this note. We miss you here. :)

thank you for the condolonces. It will be a weird trip, gogin out there for my own mother's funeral! Lots going on here too but more on that later.

Oh, and yes, I hope to snap some pics for Instagram at least. We shall see. Still want to write up a post for mother too but have to be in the right mood/mind set to do that I think as I want it to be worthy of her legacy.

Keep running! Think of all that extra exercise you get and I know you are all very health conscious, so good thing! :)

  13. Oh dear Michael, am saddened to come back and find you have lost your sweet mum whilst I was away. Knowing the story, and how you and Alexandra have done so much over the past year to make sure she was being cared for, will I hope ease your sorrow somewhat, and hopefully she went peacefully. Perhaps our fight paths crossed each other somewhere out there in the wild blue yonder - don't know when you traveled home - Bob and I returned on May 14 - have been fighting a really nasty bug we caught on the ship!
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, here and in England. Stay safe, and don't worry about the 'picnic', we can throw down the plaid blanket, heat up the tea, and share cake again when you return.
Warm and friendly hugs, as always - Mary
